Damien Rice

Damien Rice, born December 7, 1973 in Dublin, Ireland, and raised in Celbridge, County Kildare, is an Irish singer-songwriter renowned for his raw, emotionally intense acoustic folk sound. He began his career as a member of the band Juniper before leaving to pursue a solo path, eventually recording a demo that reached his cousin, producer David Arnold, whose support helped fund Rice's own mobile studio.

After a period of travel and busking across Europe, Rice returned to Ireland and released his debut solo album, O, in 2002, first in Ireland and then to widespread critical acclaim in the UK, Europe and the US. The album, featuring his longtime musical partner Lisa Hannigan on vocals, established his signature style of hushed, confessional verses building into cathartic, cinematic crescendos.

His music is defined by dynamic contrasts: intimate whispers giving way to swelling strings and raw vocal outbursts, paired with deeply personal, often heartbreak-driven lyrics.
