Daisuke Ishiwatari

Daisuke Ishiwatari is a Japanese video game creator, composer and guitarist best known as the driving force behind the Guilty Gear fighting game series. Since its original PlayStation debut, he has handled an unusually wide range of duties on the franchise, including character design, story, and voice work, alongside composing and performing much of the guitar-driven soundtrack himself, giving Guilty Gear its distinctive heavy rock and metal sound within the fighting game genre.

As a composer, Ishiwatari writes multiple character themes for every new Guilty Gear installment, blending hard rock and metal riffing with dramatic, cinematic arrangements, as heard in pieces like «The Roar of the Spark» and «Smell of the Game». His guitar work is central to the series identity, and he has continued this role across sequels and spin-offs for decades.

His composing credits extend beyond Guilty Gear: he has written music for the BlazBlue series and composed the soundtrack for the run-and-gun game Hard Corps: Uprising. Ishiwatari is widely regarded as one of the defining voices in Japanese video game rock music, valued as much for his musicianship as for his overall creative authorship of the games he scores.
