Crywank

Crywank were an English anti-folk duo from Manchester, formed in 2009 by Jay Clayton (vocals, guitar) and Sam Pillay on drums, known for brutally confessional lyrics about depression, self-loathing, alcoholism and dark humour delivered over sparse, shouty acoustic arrangements. The project began almost as an accident, with Jay picking up a guitar with little prior experience, and that raw, unpolished energy became central to the band's appeal within the UK anti-folk and sadcore scenes.

Across a prolific run of albums including James Is Going to Die Soon, Narcissist on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Tomorrow Is Nearly Yesterday and Everyday Is Stupid and Don't Piss on Me, I'm Already Dead, Crywank built a devoted cult following through relentless touring and an unfiltered, diary-like songwriting style that resonated with listeners dealing with mental health struggles.

Their final two records, Wearing Beige on a Grey Day and Fist Me 'til Your Hand Comes Out My Mouth, documented escalating personal tension within the band before their eventual split, cementing their reputation as one of the most emotionally raw acts in the DIY folk-punk underground.
