Creedence Clearwater Revival

Creedence Clearwater Revival were an American roots rock band from El Cerrito, California, active from the late 1960s to 1972. The classic lineup featured John Fogerty on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar, Stu Cook on bass and Doug Clifford on drums; the group had played together for years under earlier names, including The Blue Velvets and The Golliwogs, before becoming CCR.

Despite hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, CCR built a sound steeped in the imagery and rhythms of the American South — bayous, riverboats and swamp blues — filtered through tight, economical songwriting and John Fogerty's gritty, instantly identifiable voice. In a remarkably short span they released a string of hit singles, including «Proud Mary», «Bad Moon Rising», «Green River», «Down on the Corner», «Fortunate Son» and «Have You Ever Seen the Rain?», many pairing infectious hooks with socially and politically charged lyrics addressing the Vietnam War era.

Though the band's active period was brief, ending in 1972 amid internal tensions, CCR's catalog became a cornerstone of classic rock radio and one of the most influential bodies of work in American roots and swamp rock, admired for its economy, groove and John Fogerty's enduring songwriting voice.
