Cracker

Cracker is an American rock band formed in Redlands, California, led by singer-guitarist David Lowery, previously frontman of the influential college-rock band Camper Van Beethoven, alongside guitarist Johnny Hickman. Emerging in the early 1990s alternative rock boom, Cracker distinguished itself with a sardonic, literate songwriting style that blended roots rock, country twang, and punk-informed guitar crunch, standing apart from the era's grunge orthodoxy through Lowery's wry, deadpan vocal delivery and cutting lyrics.

The band broke through with its 1993 album «Kerosene Hat», powered by the singles «Low» and «Get Off This», which brought them into heavy MTV and alternative-radio rotation. Later songs such as «Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)» and «Euro-Trash Girl» reinforced their reputation for combining catchy hooks with acerbic social observation. Cracker continued recording and touring for decades, often pairing releases with Camper Van Beethoven reunion projects led by Lowery.

Cracker's music occupies a distinctive niche within alternative and roots rock, valued for its songwriting craft and unpretentious blend of Americana influences with alt-rock energy, and the band has remained a steady presence on the American club and festival touring circuit well beyond its 1990s commercial peak.
