Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist from Melbourne, celebrated for her deadpan, stream-of-consciousness lyricism and a guitar style that swings between laconic indie rock and fuzzed-out, almost grunge-like intensity. She first drew wide attention with her early EPs, later compiled and expanded upon in her breakthrough debut album, «Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit», which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.

Barnett’s songwriting is distinguished by its eye for mundane, everyday detail — grocery shopping, open-house inspections, gardening — rendered with wit and unexpected emotional depth, as heard on tracks like «Depreston» and «Pedestrian at Best». Her follow-up album, «Tell Me How You Really Feel», pushed further into rawer, more direct emotional territory.

Beyond her solo work, Barnett founded the independent label Milk! Records in 2012, supporting fellow Australian artists, and collaborated with American singer-songwriter Kurt Vile on the acclaimed 2017 album «Lotta Sea Lice».
