Conor Oberst

Conor Oberst, born February 15, 1980, in Omaha, Nebraska, is a singer-songwriter best known as the driving force behind Bright Eyes, though his career stretches across a long list of other projects. A precocious talent, he began recording as a teenager, releasing his first album at around age 13, and by his early twenties had become a defining voice of early-2000s indie folk, known for confessional, often stream-of-consciousness lyrics delivered in a distinctive, quavering tenor.

Beyond Bright Eyes, Oberst has moved fluidly between styles and collaborators: the punk-inflected Desaparecidos, the alt-country leanings of Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, the roots-rock supergroup Monsters of Folk with Jim James and M. Ward, and earlier teenage outfits like Commander Venus. This restless output reflects a songwriter unwilling to be pinned to one genre, moving between raw acoustic introspection, full-band Americana, and more experimental arrangements depending on the project.
