Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids formed in 2004 in Fullerton, California, quickly becoming known for a raw, piano-and-guitar-driven indie rock sound built on frontman Nathan Willett's distinctive falsetto and percussive vocal delivery. Their early records, especially the breakthrough «Robbers & Cowards», established a stripped-back, bluesy aesthetic rooted in American gospel and roots music filtered through an indie sensibility, with storytelling lyrics about flawed, ordinary people.

The band's biggest crossover moment came with «First», a hit that showed their evolution toward a bigger, more polished, radio-friendly sound while keeping the rhythmic urgency and emotional intensity of their early work. Songs like «Hang Me Up to Dry» and «We Used to Vacation» remain fan favorites from their formative period, while later material such as «Love Is Mystical» and «So Tied Up» reflects a more expansive, synth-and-groove-inflected direction.
