Citizen

Citizen are an American alternative rock band formed in 2009 by former members of the metalcore act The Sound of Glory, drawing musicians from both Michigan and Ohio. Signing to Run for Cover Records, the band released the EP «Young States» before their full-length debut, «Youth» (2013), recorded with producer Will Yip, which helped establish them within the emo-revival and post-hardcore scenes of the early 2010s alongside bands like Title Fight and Balance and Composure.

Their sound blends driving guitar work and dynamic shifts between quiet and loud passages, drawing on both classic emo and shoegaze-adjacent textures. The 2015 album «Everybody Is Going to Heaven» pushed toward a heavier, more atmospheric direction, while «As You Please» (2017), previewed by the single «Jet», leaned into a moodier, more melodic palette that showed the band continuing to evolve.

Citizen have remained a steady presence on the touring circuit, including a stint on the Vans Warped Tour, and continued releasing singles into the following years, cementing their reputation as a reliable and evolving voice in modern alternative rock.
