Children of Bodom

Children of Bodom were a Finnish extreme metal band from Espoo, formed in 1993 and led by guitarist and vocalist Alexi Laiho until his death in 2020. The band became one of the defining acts of melodic death metal, distinguished by a sound that fused blistering guitar and keyboard duels, neoclassical influences, and aggressive vocals into a style often described as bringing a virtuosic, almost shred-guitar sensibility to extreme metal.

Their name references the infamous 1960 Lake Bodom murders in Finland, giving the band a dark, folkloric identity from the start. Albums such as «Follow the Reaper», «Hate Crew Deathroll», and later records built the band's reputation for technical musicianship, with tracks like «Follow the Reaper», «Everytime I Die», and «Downfall» becoming staples of their live sets. Their cover of Britney Spears' «Oops!... I Did It Again» became one of their most surprising and widely known recordings, showing the band's willingness to inject dark humor into their otherwise intense catalog.

Beyond their studio work, Children of Bodom toured extensively worldwide and became one of the most recognizable Finnish metal exports internationally. The band's run came to an end following Laiho's death, cementing their legacy as pioneers who pushed melodic death metal toward a more technical, keyboard-driven direction.
