About the artist
Chicano Batman is an American band formed in Los Angeles in 2008, known for a distinctive sound that fuses psychedelic soul, funk, tropicalia and Latin rhythms with indie rock sensibilities. Guitarist and keyboardist Bardo Martinez and bassist Eduardo Arenas, both sharing lead vocal duties, anchor a lineup rounded out by drums and a second guitarist, drawing on influences ranging from Caetano Veloso and Curtis Mayfield to the Delfonics and the Beatles.
The band's 2014 album «Cycles of Existential Rhyme» brought them wider attention, leading Jack White to invite them on tour and securing a slot at the Coachella festival. Their 2017 single «Black Lipstick» became their biggest hit to date, showcasing the smooth grooves, warm vintage keyboard tones and socially conscious lyricism that define their catalogue.
Often associated with the Chicano and Latin alternative music scenes, Chicano Batman helped bring a psychedelic, soul-inflected sound rooted in Latin American and Chicano identity into indie rock's mainstream, releasing several albums, EPs and singles over more than a decade of steady output.
