Cannibal Corpse

Cannibal Corpse are an American death metal band formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1988, later relocating to Tampa, Florida. They are widely regarded as one of the most influential and commercially successful acts in the genre, having built a large, devoted fanbase over more than three decades of extreme music. The band went through several vocalist and guitarist changes in their early years before settling into a lineup that produced a long run of studio albums.

Musically, Cannibal Corpse are known for their relentless, technically precise death metal built on rapid tremolo riffing, blast beats, and guttural growled vocals. Their lyrics, filled with graphic violence and horror imagery, made them a frequent target of censorship and controversy in several countries, with some albums banned or sold with altered artwork. Despite this, the band never softened their approach to court mainstream acceptance.

Songs such as «Hammer Smashed Face» and «I Cum Blood» became genre staples, and the band even appeared in the film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, which brought them unexpected mainstream visibility. Cannibal Corpse remain active performers and recording artists, and are frequently cited by younger death metal bands as a foundational influence on the modern sound of the genre.
