Buffalo Springfield

Buffalo Springfield was a Canadian-American rock band active from 1966 to 1968, formed in Los Angeles around the core trio of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Richie Furay. The lineup also included Bruce Palmer, Dewey Martin, and later replacements such as Jim Messina, Doug Hastings, and Jim Fielder as the group cycled through members amid visa troubles and internal tension during its short but influential run.

The band is best remembered for the protest anthem «For What It's Worth», written by Stills in response to unrest on the Sunset Strip, which became one of the defining songs of the era's counterculture. Beyond that signature track, the group's catalog — including «Mr. Soul», «Expecting to Fly», «Bluebird», «Broken Arrow» and «Rock & Roll Woman» — blended folk-rock, country, and psychedelic rock, showcasing the distinct and sometimes competing songwriting voices of Young, Stills, and Furay.

Though Buffalo Springfield lasted only a couple of years before splitting apart, its members went on to shape the sound of American rock through Crosby, Stills & Nash, Poco, and Neil Young's solo career. The band's brief but potent output earned it induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, cementing its status as a foundational act of folk-rock and country-rock.
