Brittany Howard

Brittany Howard is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Athens, Alabama, best known as the frontwoman of the blues rock band Alabama Shakes, which broke through with the 2012 album Boys & Girls and followed it with the more experimental Sound & Color in 2015. Her voice, a raw and elastic instrument that moves between gospel-inflected belting and hushed, cracked intimacy, became the band's defining feature and drew comparisons to soul and rock singers of earlier generations.

Beyond Alabama Shakes, Howard has pursued a restless string of side projects, including the garage rock outfit Thunderbitch and the collaborative group Bermuda Triangle, showing an appetite for genres outside the blues rock lane that made her famous. She eventually stepped fully into a solo career, released under her own name, exploring funk, psychedelia, and R&B textures with a looser, more personal songwriting approach.
