About the artist
Boston is an American rock band formed in the city of the same name, centered on guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter and producer Tom Scholz, whose meticulous studio craftsmanship and self-built recording gear defined the band’s sound from the very beginning. Fronted originally by vocalist Brad Delp, Boston became one of the defining acts of 1970s arena rock, blending layered, richly overdubbed guitar harmonies with soaring, melodic vocals and polished pop songwriting.
Their 1976 self-titled debut album was a landmark commercial success, propelled by the anthem «More Than a Feeling» alongside «Foreplay / Long Time» and «Peace of Mind», and it remains one of the best-selling debut albums in American rock history. The follow-up, Don’t Look Back, continued the band’s run of radio staples with its title track and «Amanda» from a later album further cementing their presence on classic rock playlists.
Known for lengthy gaps between releases due to Scholz’s exacting, perfectionist approach to production, Boston nonetheless left an outsized mark on the arena and classic rock genre, with songs like «Rock & Roll Band», «Smokin'» and «Hitch a Ride» showcasing their combination of technical guitar work and instantly memorable hooks. Decades on, Boston’s catalog remains a cornerstone of classic rock radio.
