About the artist

Blood, Sweat & Tears is an American jazz-rock band formed in New York City in 1967 by Al Kooper, who assembled an eight-piece horn-and-rhythm lineup including Jim Fielder, Fred Lipsius, Randy Brecker, Jerry Weiss, Dick Halligan, Steve Katz, and Bobby Colomby. Their debut, Child Is Father to the Man, was critically praised for fusing rock with jazz horn arrangements but sold modestly.

After Kooper's departure, singer David Clayton-Thomas joined, and the retooled lineup released the self-titled Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1969, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and produced three top-five singles: «You've Made Me So Very Happy», «Spinning Wheel», and «And When I Die». The album's horn-driven arrangements, combining rock rhythm sections with jazz brass and reed instrumentation, defined the jazz-rock sound that the band shared with contemporaries like Chicago.

The group performed at Woodstock in 1969 and continued releasing albums through the 1970s, undergoing numerous lineup changes along the way. Blood, Sweat & Tears has reformed multiple times in the decades since, with Clayton-Thomas remaining the group's most associated frontman for much of its history.
