Bloc Party

Bloc Party are an English rock band formed in London in the late 1990s/early 2000s, fronted by singer-guitarist Kele Okereke alongside guitarist Russell Lissack, with the classic lineup rounded out by Matt Tong on drums and Gordon Moakes on bass. Emerging from the post-punk revival scene of the early 2000s, the band drew comparisons to acts like Gang of Four and Wire while carving out a sound of their own defined by angular guitar riffs, propulsive rhythms, and Okereke's distinctive yelping, socially conscious vocals.

Their 2005 debut album, Silent Alarm, was a critical and commercial breakthrough, featuring tracks like «Banquet», «Helicopter», «Like Eating Glass», and «So Here We Are», and it remains regarded as one of the defining British indie rock records of its era. Follow-up albums such as A Weekend in the City and Intimacy pushed the band toward more electronic textures while retaining their tense, urgent energy, with songs like «This Modern Love» and «Hunting for Witches» showcasing their range between introspection and social commentary.

After a hiatus, the band returned with their fourth album, Four, in 2012, before Tong and Moakes departed. Okereke and Lissack continued Bloc Party with new members Justin Harris and Louise Bartle, releasing the fifth album HYMNS in 2016. Across two decades, Bloc Party have remained a touchstone of British indie and post-punk revival, influencing a generation of guitar bands while continuing to evolve their sound.
