blink-182 formed in 1992 in Poway, California, a suburb of San Diego, founded by guitarist Tom DeLonge, bassist Mark Hoppus, and original drummer Scott Raynor, who was later replaced by Travis Barker. Originally performing simply as Blink, the trio added «182» to their name to avoid a legal dispute with an Irish band of the same name. The band's lineup has shifted over the decades, including DeLonge's departure and eventual return, but the DeLonge-Hoppus-Barker trio remains the group's defining configuration.

The band became one of the defining acts of pop-punk in the late 1990s and early 2000s, known for fast, melodic guitar hooks paired with juvenile humor and, later, surprisingly candid explorations of heartbreak, growing up, and mortality. Breakthrough albums like Dude Ranch and the multi-platinum Enema of the State brought singles such as «All the Small Things» and «What's My Age Again?» to mainstream radio and MTV, cementing blink-182 as a gateway act for a generation of pop-punk fans.

Over a career spanning three decades, the band expanded its sound to incorporate more emotional and even electronic elements on later records, while never fully abandoning the hooks and energy that built its reputation.
