About the artist
Blind Melon is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1990 by vocalist Shannon Hoon, guitarists Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn, bassist Brad Smith, and drummer Glen Graham. Several of the founding members had grown up in the American South before relocating to Los Angeles, and that regional, roots-oriented sensibility fed into a sound that blended alternative rock with elements of blues, folk, and jam-band looseness, setting them apart from the grunge and hard-rock acts dominating the early-1990s scene.
The band’s self-titled 1992 debut album produced their signature hit, «No Rain», whose bittersweet melody and famous «bee girl» music video made it a defining song of the era and pushed the album to multi-platinum success. Hoon also lent guest vocals to Guns N’ Roses’ «Use Your Illusion» albums, reflecting his close friendship with Axl Rose.
Hoon’s death in 1995 during the tour supporting their second album, «Soup», was a major blow to the band, and Blind Melon disbanded shortly after before eventually reforming years later with new vocalists, including Travis Warren. Songs like «Change», «Galaxie», and «Soup»-era material continue to represent the band’s blend of melodic songwriting and loose, organic musicianship.
