black midi are a genre-defying rock band from London, England, whose four members met while studying at the BRIT School. They rose to notoriety quickly after graduating, building a devoted following through unpredictable live performances at Brixton's Windmill venue before gaining wider attention when a performance for Seattle radio station KEXP went viral online.

Signed early on to producer Dan Carey's Speedy Wunderground label, the band released their debut album «Schlagenheim» in 2019 to widespread critical acclaim, including a Mercury Prize nomination. Their sound is famously hard to pin down, mixing math rock complexity, noise, prog, jazz and post-punk into dense, unpredictable arrangements, heard on tracks like «bmbmbm», «Eat Men Eat» and «953».

Their second album, «Cavalcade» (2021), continued to push their experimental identity, led by singles such as «John L» and «Sugar/Tzu», further cementing their reputation as one of the most inventive and unpredictable bands to emerge from the UK's underground rock scene, known for constantly reshaping their material in live performance.
