About the artist
Black Label Society is an American heavy metal band founded in 1998 by guitarist and vocalist Zakk Wylde, best known as Ozzy Osbourne’s longtime lead guitarist. The band channels Wylde’s signature style — pinch-harmonic-laden, blues-drenched hard rock riffing rooted in the tradition of players like Randy Rhoads — into a heavier, biker-culture-inflected identity built around Wylde’s Les Paul playing and gravelly vocals.
The band’s sound blends Southern rock swagger, doom-influenced heaviness, and Sabbath-style riffing with anthemic, radio-friendly hooks, distinguishing it from more extreme metal contemporaries. Songs such as «Stillborn», «In This River», and «Suicide Messiah» showcase both the band’s aggressive side and Wylde’s capacity for emotional, ballad-like songwriting, the latter written in tribute to Dimebag Darrell.
Over a career spanning multiple studio albums, live releases, and near-constant touring, Black Label Society has remained centered on Wylde as its sole constant member, with a rotating supporting lineup, cementing the band’s reputation as one of hard rock’s most recognizable and enduring vehicles for its founder’s guitar-driven vision.
