Black Country, New Road

Black Country, New Road are a London-based band formed in 2018, emerging from the same fertile UK post-punk and experimental scene as acts like Black Midi. The group built an early reputation on intense, unpredictable live shows that combined elements of post-rock, klezmer, jazz and chamber music, driven by interplay between violin, saxophone and guitar rather than conventional verse-chorus songwriting.

Their debut album, released in the early 2020s, arrived amid enormous critical anticipation built on a string of acclaimed singles, and was quickly followed by a widely praised second album that pushed their sound toward denser, more orchestral arrangements. Shortly before that second record's release, the band's original vocalist and guitarist departed, a significant turning point that forced a reinvention of both their lineup and their approach to songwriting.

Since then the remaining members have continued as a collective songwriting unit, sharing vocal duties and steering the band toward warmer, more folk-inflected material while retaining the restless, genre-blending instrumental identity that made them one of the most distinctive voices in the UK's contemporary underground rock scene.
