Billy Idol

Billy Idol is an English rock musician, songwriter and actor born in Stanmore, Middlesex. He first rose to prominence in the late 1970s as a member of the punk band Generation X, whose sound was notably shaped by an appreciation for classic rock songwriting alongside punk energy, setting Idol apart from many of his contemporaries.

Going solo in the early 1980s, Idol became one of MTV's defining stars during the «Second British Invasion», pairing striking visuals with a snarling, charismatic rock persona. Longtime collaborator and guitarist Steve Stevens helped shape his signature sound, heard on hits like «White Wedding», «Rebel Yell», «Dancing with Myself», «Eyes Without a Face» and «Flesh for Fantasy» — songs that fused punk attitude with polished, hook-driven hard rock and synth textures.

Idol's 1987 single «Mony Mony» reached number one on the US charts, and several of his songs became enduring staples of 1980s rock radio and MTV rotation. He has continued to record and tour, with Steve Stevens remaining a key musical partner throughout much of his career, and remains regarded as one of the era's most visually and sonically distinctive rock stars.
