Big Thief

Big Thief is an American indie rock band formed in Brooklyn in 2015, led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Adrianne Lenker alongside guitarist Buck Meek and drummer James Krivchenia; bassist Max Oleartchik was a founding member who departed the band in 2024. Lenker and Meek had already been performing together as a duo, releasing the A-Sides and B-Sides albums, before forming the full band.

The group built its reputation on raw, emotionally direct songwriting, with Lenker's intimate, often stream-of-consciousness lyrics paired with interplay between delicate folk fingerpicking and more turbulent, distorted rock textures. Their sound moves fluidly between hushed acoustic ballads and loose, exploratory band arrangements, giving albums like «Masterpiece» and «Capacity» — released on Saddle Creek Records — a diaristic, unguarded quality.

After signing with 4AD, Big Thief released «U.F.O.F.» and «Two Hands» in quick succession in 2019, cementing their critical standing in contemporary indie rock. Songs such as «Paul», «Not» and «Simulation Swarm» reflect the band's continued exploration of loose, live-feeling arrangements and Lenker's evocative, nature-infused songwriting, making Big Thief one of the most acclaimed guitar bands of their generation.
