Beach House

Beach House is an American dream pop duo formed in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2004 by French-born vocalist and keyboardist Victoria Legrand and Baltimore native guitarist Alex Scally. Despite the breezy name, their music is known for being lush, hazy, and melancholic, built around shimmering organ tones, reverb-drenched guitar, drum machines, and Legrand's deep, smoky vocals.

The duo released their self-titled debut in 2006 through Carpark Records, followed by «Devotion» in 2008, further honing a sound often described as hypnotic and dreamlike rather than beachy or upbeat. Their profile rose significantly with 2010's «Teen Dream», their first album for Sub Pop, and continued with «Bloom» (2012) and «Depression Cherry» and «Thank Your Lucky Stars» (both 2015), cementing them as one of the defining acts of the dream pop revival.

Beach House's music has found a long afterlife well beyond initial release through songs like «Space Song» and «Myth», which became widely streamed and sampled staples of internet listening culture years after their original albums came out. The band has continued to release new material into the 2020s, maintaining a consistent creative partnership between Legrand and Scally across two decades.
