About the artist
Beach Fossils are an American dream pop band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2009 around singer, guitarist and songwriter Dustin Payseur. The lineup has settled around Payseur, guitarist Thomas Davidson, bassist Jack Doyle Smith and drummer Anton Hochheim, though the band has run through a rotating cast of members over the years.
Their sound blends jangly, reverb-soaked guitars with a driving post-punk rhythm section and Payseur's laconic, half-murmured vocals, placing them alongside Captured Tracks labelmates like Wild Nothing and DIIV in the early-2010s revival of hazy, melodic guitar pop. Their self-titled 2010 debut and 2013's «Clash the Truth» built a cult following on tightly wound, hook-driven songwriting hidden under tape-saturated production.
With 2017's «Somersault» the band expanded its palette, bringing in strings, flute and harp and collaborating with guests including Cate Le Bon and Rachel Goswell of Slowdive, before returning to a leaner guitar sound on 2023's «Bunny». Across four albums, Beach Fossils have remained one of the defining acts of the Captured Tracks roster and a touchstone for the broader dream pop revival.
