Barasuara

Barasuara is an Indonesian rock band from Jakarta formed in the early 2010s, known for fusing progressive and alternative rock with traditional Indonesian melodic and rhythmic elements. Their name combines the Indonesian words for «people» and «voice», reflecting the band's focus on socially and politically aware songwriting delivered through layered, dynamic arrangements and the distinctive vocals of frontwoman Iga Massardi's bandmate, lead singer Asteriska.

The band's debut album Taifun (2015) drew wide critical acclaim in the Indonesian indie scene for its ambitious sound, combining heavy guitar work, intricate rhythms and traditional Nusantara musical textures with modern rock production. Songs like «Taifun», «Hagia» and «Api & Lentera» showcased their ability to move between aggressive rock passages and more contemplative, folk-inflected sections.

Their follow-up album Pikiran dan Perjalanan continued this exploration, with tracks such as «Terbuang dalam Waktu» and «Mengunci Ingatan» further establishing Barasuara as one of the most respected acts in contemporary Indonesian alternative music, praised for their musicianship, poetic Indonesian-language lyrics and refusal to follow mainstream pop conventions.
