Band of Horses

Band of Horses is an American indie/alternative rock band formed in Seattle in 2004 by Ben Bridwell and Mat Brooke following the breakup of their earlier group Carissa's Wierd. After a brief run as Horses, the band settled on its name and released a self-titled EP before signing to Sub Pop Records. Their 2006 debut album Everything All the Time introduced their signature sound built around Bridwell's soaring falsetto, layered reverb-drenched guitars, and expansive, atmospheric arrangements that drew comparisons to My Morning Jacket and Neil Young.

The band's lineup shifted considerably after the debut, with several founding members departing, leaving Bridwell as the sole constant through the following decade. Their sophomore record Cease to Begin cracked the top 40 in the US thanks to songs like «Is There a Ghost» and «No One's Gonna Love You», cementing their reputation for widescreen, emotionally direct songwriting. The band later moved to Columbia Records while also releasing music through Fat Possum and Bridwell's own label Brown Records, broadening their audience beyond the indie underground.

Over subsequent albums, Band of Horses continued to refine a sound that balances rootsy Americana textures with anthemic rock dynamics, earning a reputation as one of the defining acts of the mid-2000s indie rock revival. Songs such as «The Funeral» and «The Great Salt Lake» remain touchstones of the genre, admired for their slow-building intensity and Bridwell's distinctive vocal delivery.
