AWOLNATION is an American rock project formed in 2010 by frontman and songwriter Aaron Bruno, who leads the band's ever-evolving lineup. The name comes from Bruno's high-school nickname AWOL, extended into a metaphor for escapism and a place of refuge from everyday life. Bruno has said he wants listeners to find their own meaning in the lyrics rather than reading them literally, treating many of the songs as personal metaphors for life experiences.

The band's music blends alternative rock with electronic textures, especially on its early records, giving the sound a hybrid, atmospheric edge that sets it apart from straightforward guitar rock. Their debut album Megalithic Symphony and its follow-up Run leaned into this electronic-rock fusion, built around Bruno's dynamic vocal delivery that swings from whispered introspection to explosive intensity.

AWOLNATION's breakthrough came with «Sail», a moody, bass-driven single that became a defining alternative radio anthem of the early 2010s and has been remixed and licensed widely. Other notable tracks like «Kill Your Heroes», «Run», and «Woman Woman» further showcase the band's mix of anthemic hooks and introspective lyricism, cementing AWOLNATION as one of the era's distinctive alternative rock acts.
