Audioslave

Audioslave was an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 2001, uniting vocalist and guitarist Chris Cornell, fresh from the breakup of Soundgarden, with guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford, and drummer Brad Wilk, the instrumental core of Rage Against the Machine. The pairing merged Cornell's soaring, grunge-honed voice with Morello's inventive, riff-driven guitar work, producing a sound that fused hard rock intensity with melodic songcraft.

The band released three studio albums between 2002 and 2006, scoring rock radio staples like «Like a Stone», «I Am the Highway», and «Cochise». Their self-titled debut leaned into brooding, riff-heavy rock, while later releases such as Out of Exile pushed toward a more polished, expansive sound that established Audioslave as a distinct entity rather than simply a fusion of its members' former bands.

Audioslave also made history as the first American rock band to perform an open-air concert in Cuba. The group disbanded in 2007 amid internal conflicts, with Cornell citing irreconcilable creative differences; both Morello's and Commerford's return to Rage Against the Machine and Cornell's solo work followed shortly after.
