Asia

Asia are a British progressive rock supergroup formed in 1981 when King Crimson bassist/vocalist John Wetton joined forces with Yes guitarist Steve Howe, Yes/Buggles keyboardist Geoff Downes, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer drummer Carl Palmer. Bringing together members of some of the era's most celebrated prog-rock bands, the group deliberately reshaped that pedigree into a leaner, more radio-friendly arena-rock sound aimed at mainstream success.

Their 1982 self-titled debut album was a commercial phenomenon, topping the US charts and spawning the hit single «Heat of the Moment», which became an enduring rock-radio staple, alongside the follow-up single «Only Time Will Tell». The album's blend of soaring vocal hooks, polished keyboard textures, and technically accomplished musicianship made Asia one of the defining acts of the AOR and arena-rock sound of the early 1980s, and their videos were heavily featured on MTV during the channel's formative years.

Despite lineup changes over the following decades, the classic quartet later reunited for further albums and tours, cementing Asia's legacy as one of the most successful supergroups to emerge from the British progressive rock scene, bridging the gap between complex 1970s prog and the hook-driven rock of the 1980s.
