About the artist
As I Lay Dying are an American metalcore band from San Diego, California, formed in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis. The band became one of the defining acts of the mid-2000s metalcore scene, known for fusing melodic, harmonized guitar work with aggressive breakdowns and Lambesis's alternating growled and clean vocal delivery.
Signed to Metal Blade Records, the band built its reputation through albums such as Frail Words Collapse and, especially, An Ocean Between Us, which reached the upper tiers of the Billboard 200 and topped rock charts, spawning tracks like «Nothing Left» that earned Grammy recognition. Their follow-up, The Powerless Rise, was met with wide critical acclaim and further cemented their standing at the forefront of American metalcore alongside contemporaries in the genre.
As I Lay Dying toured extensively on major festival circuits including Warped Tour, Sounds of the Underground, and Soundwave, and picked up multiple industry honors during their peak years. The band's career was significantly disrupted by a hiatus and lineup upheaval in the mid-2010s, but they later regrouped and returned to recording and touring, with releases such as «Shaped by Fire» and «My Own Grave» marking their continued output in the following years.
