Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti is the long-running band vehicle for Los Angeles singer-songwriter Ariel Pink, formed around 2000 and used as the credit for his recordings until he shifted to releasing under his own name starting with pom pom in 2014. The name captures the project’s aesthetic identity as much as its lineup: warped, hazy, tape-drenched pop that drew equally on classic rock, soft rock, new wave, and outsider psychedelia, recorded initially with cheap home equipment before evolving into a full touring and recording band.

Core members over the years included keyboardist, guitarist, and backing vocalist Kenny Gilmore and bassist Tim Koh, with guitarist and keyboardist Joe Kennedy joining in 2012. The band’s lineup expanded further to include drummer Don Bolles, known for his work with the punk band the Germs, and lead guitarist Jorge Elbrecht, reflecting the shifting, collaborative nature of the project across its various incarnations and instrument swaps.

Albums released under the Haunted Graffiti name, including Worn Copy, House Arrest, and Before Today, helped define the lo-fi and hypnagogic pop sound of the 2000s underground and drew wider critical attention as the project signed to 4AD, expanding Ariel Pink’s reach well beyond the DIY circuit where the band began.
