Ария (Aria)

Aria is one of the most influential heavy metal bands in Soviet and Russian rock history, formed in Moscow in 1985. Emerging during the late Soviet era when Western-style metal was still viewed with suspicion by official culture, the band built a devoted following through relentless touring and a sound rooted in classic heavy metal and NWOBHM influences, filtered through Russian-language lyrics steeped in fantasy, mysticism, and epic storytelling.

Over the decades Aria became a foundational act for the entire Russian-speaking metal scene, inspiring countless bands that followed. The group's lineup has shifted many times over the years, with guitarists Vladimir Kholstinin and Vitaly Dubinin serving as long-standing creative anchors. Their catalog includes anthems such as «Штиль», «Улица роз» and «Беспечный ангел», songs that remain staples of Russian rock radio and live setlists decades after release.
