Anti-Flag

Anti-Flag is an American punk rock band formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1988 by vocalist/guitarist Justin Sane and drummer Pat Thetic. Built around a fast, hook-laden punk sound rooted in the tradition of bands like The Clash and Dead Kennedys, Anti-Flag became known as much for its music as for its outspoken left-wing political stance, addressing war, corporate power, human rights, and government overreach directly in its lyrics.

Over the decades the band cultivated a reputation as one of punk’s most consistently activist acts, aligning itself with organizations such as Amnesty International and Greenpeace and using its platform to push listeners toward political engagement. Songs like «The Press Corpse», «1 Trillion Dollar$», and «You’ve Got to Die for the Government» exemplify the band’s blunt, anti-war and anti-establishment messaging delivered through anthemic, gang-vocal choruses.

The band’s lineup evolved over time around the core of Justin Sane and Pat Thetic, with guitarist Chris Head and bassist Chris #2 rounding out a long-running configuration. Anti-Flag toured extensively and released a large body of work that helped keep politically charged punk rock relevant to new generations of listeners.
