Ani DiFranco

Ani DiFranco is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and label owner from Buffalo, New York, celebrated as one of the most fiercely independent figures in modern folk and rock. She began performing publicly as a child and left home in her teens, moving to New York City where she started self-releasing records rather than sign with a major label. In 1990 she founded Righteous Babe Records, which became a model for artist-owned, DIY distribution and helped her build a devoted fanbase without relying on radio hits.

Her songwriting blends folk, punk energy and jazz-inflected phrasing, driven by percussive, open-tuned acoustic guitar work that has drawn praise from musicians across genres.
