Angel Olsen is an American singer-songwriter born January 22, 1987, in St. Louis, Missouri, now based in Asheville, North Carolina. She first gained recognition as a backing vocalist for Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and the Cairo Gang before launching a solo career rooted in traditional folk and lo-fi indie rock, distinguished by a distinctive, quivering vibrato and deeply confessional songwriting.

Her breakthrough came with Burn Your Fire for No Witness (2014), which brought wider acclaim for its raw emotional intensity, followed by My Woman (2016), an album that expanded her sound toward fuller, more polished arrangements while retaining her core intimacy.
