Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter from the Chicago area, celebrated for his virtuosic violin playing, distinctive whistling, and inventive use of live looping. Trained in the Suzuki method from early childhood and later earning a degree in violin performance from Northwestern University, he brings a rigorous classical foundation to music rooted in folk, jazz, and indie pop. His early career included stints with the swing revival act Squirrel Nut Zippers and his own group Bowl of Fire, before he emerged as a solo artist with a highly literate, whimsical songwriting style full of wordplay and unusual imagery.

Over a prolific solo career spanning more than a dozen studio albums, Bird has built a reputation for intricate arrangements that layer looped violin, guitar, and glockenspiel into lush, chamber-pop soundscapes. Songs like «Sisyphus», «Roma Fade», and «Fake Palindromes» showcase his knack for blending melodic accessibility with lyrical complexity.
