About the artist
Alice Cooper (Band) was the original glam and shock rock group from Phoenix, Arizona, that gave rise to the Alice Cooper name before it became the solo persona of frontman Vincent Furnier. Formed in the mid-1960s under earlier names before settling as Alice Cooper, the group combined garage rock roots with theatrical, proto-shock-rock showmanship and dark humor that pushed against the flower-power aesthetics of the era.
The band scored major hits including «School's Out», «I'm Eighteen» and «Elected», tracks that mixed simple, anthemic hard rock hooks with rebellious, adolescent themes that resonated widely and helped shape the sound of 1970s hard rock. Their theatrical live shows, featuring elaborate props and horror-inspired staging, were groundbreaking for the era and set a template later followed by many hard rock and metal acts. Any material released before 1975's Welcome to My Nightmare is generally credited to the band rather than to Cooper as a solo artist, since after that the classic lineup dissolved and Furnier continued under the Alice Cooper name alone. The band's raw energy and stagecraft left a lasting mark on hard rock and remain a touchstone for the theatrical wing of the genre.
