About the artist
Alexey Vishnya (born September 18, 1964, in Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg) is a Russian musician, sound engineer, poet and songwriter, best known as one of the key sound engineers behind the legendary Soviet rock band Kino, fronted by Viktor Tsoi. Working from his home studio in the 1980s, Vishnya helped shape the raw, atmospheric sound of the Leningrad rock underground during a period when access to professional recording equipment was extremely limited.
Beyond his production work, Vishnya built a distinctive solo career marked by surreal, often absurdist lyrics paired with a mix of rock, pop and early electronic textures. Songs like «Шприц», «Расчёска» and «Холодильник» showcase his idiosyncratic songwriting, blending dark humor with everyday, mundane imagery turned strange and poetic.
His work occupies a unique niche in Russian rock history: part engineer, part artist, straddling the line between behind-the-scenes craftsman and eccentric performer. Vishnya remains a cult figure among fans of Leningrad's 1980s rock scene, valued both for his technical contributions to Kino's sound and for his own peculiar musical universe.
