Alex Turner

Alex Turner, born 6 January 1986 in Sheffield, England, is the lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter of Arctic Monkeys, one of the defining British rock bands to emerge in the 2000s. Formed while Turner and his bandmates were teenagers, the group rose rapidly on the strength of witty, vernacular lyrics and sharp, riff-driven songwriting, and Turner's distinctive voice — a Sheffield-inflected drawl that later deepened into a smoother, more crooning register — has remained the band's signature throughout its stylistic evolution from garage-punk energy to more atmospheric, lounge-influenced rock.

Beyond Arctic Monkeys, Turner has built a body of work as a solo artist and collaborator. He wrote and performed the original soundtrack for the 2010 film Submarine, a stripped-down, folk-leaning set that revealed a gentler, more introspective songwriting voice than his main band showcased at the time. Tracks like «Stuck on the Puzzle», «Glass in the Park» and «Piledriver Waltz» (the last later reworked by Arctic Monkeys) come from this project. In 2007 he also co-founded The Last Shadow Puppets with Miles Kane, a partnership built on cinematic, orchestral pop influenced by 1960s songcraft, with longtime producer James Ford — who has also shaped several Arctic Monkeys records — behind the boards for both projects.

Turner's production credits extend to work such as Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and Alexandra Savior's debut album Belladonna of Sadness, underlining his role as a songwriter and producer beyond his own vocal output.
