Alex G

Alex G, born Alexander Giannascoli, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the Philadelphia suburbs who began recording and self-releasing music prolifically while still a teenager. He built an early, devoted following largely through Bandcamp before signing to independent labels, becoming a touchstone figure of DIY lo-fi indie rock.

His sound is notably restless and shape-shifting, moving between lo-fi bedroom pop, folk, noisy indie rock, and warped electronic experimentation, often within the same album — frequently manipulating his own vocals with pitch-shifting effects to unsettling or playful effect. Albums like DSU marked his breakthrough into wider critical recognition, followed by a run of releases on Domino Recording Company, including Beach Music, Rocket, and House of Sugar, each further exploring his eclectic, genre-blurring songwriting.

He briefly recorded under the name (Sandy) Alex G to distinguish himself from another artist sharing his name, later reverting to Alex G. Beyond his solo catalogue, he has also contributed guitar work to Frank Ocean's Blonde. His prolific output, intimate lyricism, and willingness to experiment with texture and structure have made him an influential figure across the broader indie rock and lo-fi scenes.
