Aldous Harding

Aldous Harding is the stage name of Hannah Sian Topp, a singer-songwriter born in 1990 in Lyttelton, New Zealand. She emerged from the same fertile Lyttelton and Christchurch scene that produced artists like Marlon Williams, and quickly distinguished herself with a singular blend of folk songwriting, theatrical stage presence, and a voice capable of shifting from a fragile whisper to a commanding growl within a single line.

Her self-titled debut album arrived in 2014, establishing her as a distinctive voice in contemporary folk. The breakthrough came with her second album, Party (2017), recorded with producer John Parish, known for his long-running collaboration with PJ Harvey. The album expanded her sound with richer arrangements while retaining the intimacy and strangeness of her earlier work, drawing wider international attention and critical acclaim.

Harding is known for songs such as «The Barrel», «Imagining My Man», «Horizon», «Stop Your Tears», «Blend», «Fixture Picture», and «Zoo Eyes», which showcase her ability to write lyrics that feel both cryptic and emotionally direct.
