Alabama Shakes

Alabama Shakes is an American rock band formed in 2009 in Athens, Alabama. The group is fronted by singer, guitarist and primary songwriter Brittany Howard, whose raw, powerful vocals became the band's signature, alongside bassist Zac Cockrell, guitarist Heath Fogg and drummer Steve Johnson. Emerging from the small-town South, the band built its sound on a foundation of soul, blues and classic mid-20th century rhythm and blues, filtered through the grit of garage rock.

Their 2012 debut album, Boys & Girls, introduced them to a wide audience with tracks like «Hold On» and «I Found You», earning critical acclaim and Grammy nominations for its raw, retro-soul energy. The follow-up, Sound & Color (2015), pushed the band into more experimental, psychedelic territory, mixing soul with textured, atmospheric production. The title track and singles such as «Don't Wanna Fight» and «Gimme All Your Love» showcased a bolder, more adventurous sound.

Alabama Shakes has won three Grammy Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album for Sound & Color and Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for «Don't Wanna Fight». Brittany Howard's commanding stage presence and vocal range have made her one of the most distinctive voices in modern rock, and the band is widely credited with reviving interest in soul-infused rock music for a new generation.
