Agalloch

Agalloch was an American black/folk metal band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1995, led by vocalist and guitarist John Haughm. Over five studio albums, including «Pale Folklore», «The Mantle» and «Ashes Against the Grain», the band fused atmospheric black metal with acoustic folk passages, doom, and post-rock textures, creating a sound tied to imagery of forests, cold, and desolation.

Albums such as «Marrow of the Spirit» and «The Serpent & the Sphere» further developed this melancholic, nature-steeped aesthetic, earning Agalloch a reputation as one of the most influential American bands in the atmospheric black/folk metal scene. The band announced its dissolution in 2016, after which Haughm formed Pillorian while other members went on to form Khôrada.

In 2023 Agalloch reformed and played their first reunion show at Prophecy Fest in September of that year, reintroducing their layered, introspective sound to a new generation of listeners while remaining a touchstone for the genre.
