Against Me!

Against Me! is an American punk rock band founded by singer-guitarist Laura Jane Grace in the mid-1990s in Naples, Florida, later coalescing around the DIY punk scene of Gainesville. Rooted in folk-punk and anarchist politics, the band built an early following through raw acoustic demos and relentless touring before evolving into a fuller, more anthemic punk rock sound.

After three albums on independent labels, the band signed with Sire Records, a major-label move that drew criticism from parts of their punk base but produced well-received records before the deal ended in 2010. The band’s most acclaimed and personal work came with 2014’s Transgender Dysphoria Blues, released after Grace publicly came out as transgender, chronicling that experience with raw honesty on tracks like the title song and «True Trans Soul Rebel».

The current lineup includes Grace on vocals and guitar alongside James Bowman, Andrew Seward, and Atom Willard. Known for fiery, politically charged anthems such as «Baby, I’m an Anarchist!» and «I Was a Teenage Anarchist», Against Me! occupies a distinctive place in punk history both for its sound and for Grace’s visibility as one of the genre’s most prominent trans voices.
