After the Burial

After the Burial is an American progressive metalcore band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2004, closely associated with the djent movement thanks to their use of extended-range, eight-string guitars. The band built its reputation on technically intricate riffing combined with heavy breakdowns, a hallmark of their sound recognized within the modern metal and deathcore-adjacent scenes.

Signed to Sumerian Records, After the Burial released a string of well-regarded albums that helped define the progressive metalcore sound of the late 2000s and 2010s, with tracks like «Collapse», «A Wolf Amongst Ravens», «Pendulum» and «11/26» showcasing their blend of technical precision and aggressive energy. Songs such as «Lost in the Static», «Behold the Crown», «Neo Seoul» and «Laurentian Ghosts» further illustrate the band's evolution across their discography.

The band endured a significant lineup change after the death of founding guitarist Justin Lowe in 2016, yet continued recording and touring, releasing the album Evergreen in 2019. Their music remains a reference point for guitarists exploring extended-range instruments within heavy music.
