AFI

AFI (A Fire Inside) is an American rock band formed in Ukiah, California, in 1991. The lineup has long consisted of vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter Burgan, and drummer Adam Carson. The band began in the hardcore punk scene, building a devoted fanbase through relentless touring and DIY releases before gradually shifting toward a darker, more melodic alternative rock and post-punk sound.

The turning point came with 2003’s Sing the Sorrow, which brought AFI to mainstream rock radio, followed by the goth-tinged, synth-inflected Decemberunderground in 2006, home to hits like «Miss Murder» and «Love Like Winter». Their catalog also includes earlier fan favorites such as «Girl’s Not Grey», «Silver and Cold», and «The Leaving Song Pt. II», which showcase the band’s blend of aggressive energy and brooding romanticism.

Beyond AFI, Havok and Puget have collaborated extensively in the electronic duo Blaqk Audio, while Havok has also been part of XTRMST and DREAMCAR. AFI’s theatrical image, literary lyricism, and genre-crossing evolution have made them one of the more distinctive bands to emerge from the 1990s punk underground into arena-level alternative rock.
