Adult Jazz

Adult Jazz are an experimental rock band formed in 2010 and based in Leeds, England. The core trio of Harry Burgess (vocals, lyrics, guitar, keyboards, occasionally drums), Tim Slater (keyboards, trombone) and Steven Wells (drums, guitar, bass) grew up together in Guildford, Surrey before relocating to Leeds for university, where they were joined by producer Tom Howe, who contributes vocal effects, samplers and keyboards and shapes the band's studio sound.

Their music is known for its unconventional song structures, layered vocal harmonies and processed textures, drawing on an eclectic set of influences the band has cited including Van Morrison, Arthur Russell, Joanna Newsom and Meredith Monk. This combination gives their songs an unusually loose, almost improvisatory feel while still carrying strong melodic hooks, heard on tracks like «Springful», «Am Gone» and «Hum».

Songs such as «Spook», «Bonedigger», «Marquee», «Pumped From Above» and «Plenary» further showcase the group's willingness to stretch pop and rock songwriting into unusual shapes, placing them among the more distinctive voices to emerge from the UK's experimental guitar-music scene of the early 2010s.
