Adam Jones

Adam Jones is an American musician and visual artist best known as the lead guitarist of the progressive metal band Tool, which he co-founded in Los Angeles in 1990. Before dedicating himself fully to music, Jones worked in the film industry as a special-effects and makeup artist, a background that later shaped Tool's distinctive visual identity — he has directed and co-directed several of the band's music videos and stage visuals, blending stop-motion animation, sculpture, and photography with the group's music.

As a guitarist, Jones is known less for flashy solos than for a dense, textural approach built on unconventional tunings, hypnotic riffing, and a heavy use of odd time signatures and polyrhythms, often locking in tightly with drummer Danny Carey's complex patterns. His playing helped define Tool's sound across landmark albums such as «Undertow», «Ænima», «Lateralus», «10,000 Days», and «Fear Inoculum», records that fused metal aggression with progressive-rock structure and psychedelic atmosphere.

Jones has been recognized repeatedly for his contributions to Tool's Grammy-winning work and is frequently cited among the more influential metal and alternative guitarists of his generation, valued as much for his sonic imagination and visual collaborations as for his technical playing.
